1881 natural form pumpkin spice bustle worn to Tombstone in October 2021, Crocker Art Museum in November 2021, and Ardenwood in May 2023.

Bodice
Natural form polonaise style pumpkin spice brushed/sateen cotton has deep tucks; silk shot back bow and front tie; ruched self fabric trim on neckline, hem, and sleeve; 3/4 sleeves;
front closure; covered buttons; smocked front.
Pattern: McCall's M8189 - Misses' Dress
Sizing is a little off. Should be wearing a Victorian corset with this bodice. Used my regular pattern size and it was too big.
Some of the pattern instruction images do not match up to the text. Helps to already know how to fit and sew Victorian bodices.
Shoulders are still too wide. Wore it anyway. Cotton blend with silk for ties and bow.
Modifications include:
- Size 14 bust 16 waist 18 hips was too big. Could probably have done Size 12 bust 14 hips.
- Shortened torso 1”
- Contrast bow pattern and layout wasted a lot of fabric so shortened the large piece to the width of the fabric.
- Zigzagged bottom of lining pieces, but did not turn under.
Skirt
Pumpkin spice brushed/sateen cotton with smocked ruching has gathered hem ruffle, matching pumpkin linen for upper part of skirt.
Pattern: McCall's M8189 Modifications include:
- Size 16 waist 18 hips
- Added hidden side pockets
- Shortened hem
